Varun Verma, MD is a Clinical Fellow in the Global Health-Hospital Medicine Fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. His interest in global health equity stems from childhood trips visiting his grandparents in India – where he witnessed tremendous inequality due to socioeconomic disparities and was disturbed by devastation caused by treatable diseases. In addition to his studies at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and his training in Internal Medicine at New York University, he has worked as a volunteer medical student in Ghana and multiple times as a volunteer physician in Haiti. As a UCSF Global Health Hospital Medicine Fellow he will be working on quality improvement projects in St. Therese Hospital in Hinche, Haiti – which currently run as a partnership between the Haitian Ministry of Health and Partners in Health.
