Through a partnership between the HEAL Initiative and the UCSF Department of Anesthesia’s Division of Global Health Equity, this new anesthesia global health fellowship pathway offers a unique, advanced training opportunity for:
- Physician Anesthesiologists who are board certified or board eligible (anesthesia residents may apply during residency to begin fellowship after CA3 year)
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) who are board certified or board eligible
- Applications for anesthesia fellows are reviewed on a rolling basis (Fellowship begins July 1)

As part of the UCSF family, our fellows will have opportunities to work with many ongoing global health initiatives at UCSF including the Center for Global Surgical Studies, Global Partners in Anesthesia & Surgery, and UCSF Global Health Sciences.
One or two-year fellowship pathways will be offered (depending on partner site needs) and will include opportunities for clinical service, teaching, policy and research at both domestic and international project sites.
Fellowship Highlights:
- Advanced training in regional, trauma & obstetrics from expert UCSF faculty
- Up to 11 months per year working at project sites

- Reciprocity with partner sites – we fund 1:1 a fellow at each partner site to come to UCSF for additional training and collaboration
**HEAL provides Rotating Fellows with professional development support, including a funded graduate degree.
UCSF-appointed fellows are paired with fellows from their collaborating international or domestic project sites. All HEAL fellows (both UCSF-appointed and project site fellows) will join together in San Francisco for a Global Health Training course at the beginning of the fellowship.
Anesthesia and surgery fellows will also receive additional learning opportunities after the July Global Health Training, specific to provision of surgical and anesthesia care in low-resource settings.
