We will recruit from a diverse pool of highly qualified health professionals with a deep commitment to addressing health equity and social justice.
During HEAL Initiative’s two-year program Rotating Fellows are paired. Each fellow rotates between an underserved domestic and international site. At each location, Rotating HEAL fellows work closely with Site HEAL fellows selected by our partner organization. These Site Fellows will also participate in the HEAL Initiative curriculum.
HEAL Initiative Rotating Fellows move every 6 months between field sites. Clinical services are provided continuously at both the domestic and international sites over the two-year period. Fellows receive close mentorship from UCSF faculty, including site visits.
The HEAL Initiative curriculum will teach core components of Global Health Delivery: ultrasonography, tropical medicine, management, leadership, quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation, social determinants of health, and faculty development. HEAL Initiative Rotating and Site Fellows have the opportunity to pursue structured professional development opportunities through participation in external educational programs.
In 5 years, we expect to scale the HEAL Initiative program to include hundreds of fellows serving in low-resource settings across the U.S. and internationally.
