Raj Panjabi is the current CEO of Last Mile Health, an organization whose mission is to provide healthcare and equity to the people of Liberia. Last Mile Health is an organization that the Global Health Core works very closely with in it’s efforts to promote access to quality care in Liberia. One of the core’s current fellows, Dr. Alexandra Stanculescu, is currently working in Liberia with Last Mile Health and the Ministry of Health. Can an ultrasound be healing?

We have just arrived on the internal medicine ward at St Therese Hospital in Hinche, a regional district hospital in Haiti’s Central Plateau.  Despite its position as a district level hospital, the ward has few resources for diagnosis or treatment, and the resources it does have may be available only intermittently.   And yet into this environment come patients with severe illness, often at late stages of presentation. Meet the Fellows: Dr. Varun Verma

Varun Verma, MD is a Clinical Fellow in the Global Health-Hospital Medicine Fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. His interest in global health equity stems from childhood trips visiting his grandparents in India – where he witnessed tremendous inequality due to socioeconomic disparities and was disturbed by devastation caused by treatable diseases.
