Social Medicine Fellow Role Description: Los Angeles Hub

California Social Medicine HEAL Fellow
Placement Site:
Umma Health Community Clinic
Position Description:
- There will be an initial 5-10 day training in July at the beginning of the fellowship with other California Regional Hubs, as well as our other international cohorts.
- Monthly in person meetings with your hub lead/HEAL faculty mentor and fellow fellows in Los Angeles for curriculum, case discussions, and cross collaboration
- Quarterly 2-3 day training, typically Friday – Sunday, with all CA HEAL fellows
- Journal club discussion post 1x per month.
Clinical Duties (70%):
- Clinical hours per week: 30-40
- Administrative hours per week: 4 hours (one-half day/week)
- Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation
- Provide coverage for your “buddy provider” when on PTO
- If needed, clinical supervision for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners
HEAL Social Medicine Time (30%)
Every Social Medicine HEAL fellow will participate in ~30% of dedicated social medicine time.

Job Requirements:
By 1 July 2027 applicants must have completed residency training at a US-based residency program. Applicants must be able to provide highly competent inpatient and ambulatory care and have a clear passion for serving the underserved. Additionally, they should have the desire to interact with and teach medical learners.

Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation for the California Social Medicine HEAL Fellow is up to $155,000 salary + $5,000 stipend that can be used towards moving expenses, medical license renewal, conference registration, and other fellowship-related costs.
